We will meet in TCS.

Hello Everyone. I am Amrita Bhattacharyya, pursuing B.Tech in CSE from Birbhum Institute of Engg. & Technology. Recently TCS visited in our campus for the recruitment on 9th and 10th November, 2012.
There were 3 rounds in this overall selection procedure

1. Online Aptitude (30 ques, 80 mins)
2. Technical round
3. HR round

This year the total selection procedure (especially aptitude ques patterns) was quite different and little bit harder than the previous ones. Only 21 out of 219 students from our college got selected in aptitude test and combining with Top 5s from all the departments, total 46 students appeared for the Technical and HR interview. Finally 24 students got selected by TCS from our college. Luckily I was one of the selected candidates and I would like to share my interview experience with you all :)

As I was among top 5, so directly selected for the Technical and HR rounds and it was quite like this.

ME: May I come in Sir (with a pleasant smile)
TR: Yes
ME : Thank you sir.

TR: Amrita, please sit down and introduce yourself
ME: Gave my intro and they were satisfied (friends, please be specific and don’t take so much time to describe yourself. U can mention some important achievements or activities done by you).

TR1: So, U have learned C, Java right? Which programs have u done?
ME: mentioned around 6-7 important programs which I could able to remember at that time.

TR1: OK. Write the program of Fibonacci series and explain the logic.
ME: Wrote the program and Explained.

TR1: (satisfied) Any other programs ?
ME: Explained 2-3 programs.

TR1: Do you think, C++ has any advantage over C ?
ME: Yes sir, Of course.

TR1: How?
ME: Explained.

TR1: What is data abstraction?
ME: Told.

TR: Give me some real life Examples of Object and Class.
ME: Told .

TR: What is DBMS? Explain.
ME: Explained (Try not to give only definition..give some real life applications or advantages of it).

TR: What is the difference b/w DBMS and RDBMS?
ME: Explained and they were satisfied (by their face)

TR: What is Join operation in DBMS?
ME: Told.

Now, there was another TR who took my project file and asked ,
TR2: So, is this project completed and worked already?
ME: Yes sir, its completed and worked successfully.

TR2: Which portion have you done?
ME: Told.

TR2: So, U must have ideas about tables and queries..
ME: Yes sir, I think.

Another interviewer took a paper and drew 2 tables,
TR1: Now tell me how would you find subject wise marks of student 1 in an ordered manner from maximum to minimum, joining this two tables?
ME: ( This time I had to think for a while as I was not prepared so much this time for the join operations and at that moment I couldn't recall max to min) I tried to write the query as per I could recall those.

TRs: (they looked at my query) Its almost done..just try for a while.
ME: (I tried for a while) And I was very near to the solution.

TR: Its OK.Leave it .
(It doesn't matter if u completely solve some questions or not..they were looking at my attitude if I am trying or not. So try your best to solve if possible and keep confidence)
TR: what is normalization? Why we need it?
ME: Told.

TR: Do you think these two tables are normalized?
ME: No sir, its not.

TR: Then normalize these tables.
ME: Again got a little strike but I tried to solve that.

Now they asked something totally related to my project which I answered correctly.
In this interview, 3 panels were in front of me. 2 techs. and 1 HR( in the same table) and the HR and technical questions were asked simultaneously.(like rapid fire :D) but for better understanding, m writing it differently. The questions were:
-> Introduce yourself
(It would be better to make an eye contact not only while introducing but also throughout the whole interview)
-> What are your hobbies?
(be ready to face everything related to your hobby because they ask various questions regarding your interest. Like, for mine, singing, then which type of singing, something regarding my music sites or reading novels, then which type of novel..then describe some of them, if its reading newspaper, then don’t forget to go through today’s headlines..etc).

-> Why would you like to choose IT industry?
-> Why TCS? (most common)
-> Have you any problem with relocation?
-> Have you any problem with night shifts if some day works extend?
-> Do you have any queries?

(Asked about two projects undertaken by TCS because I was interested to know something about those)

MR: OK thanks Amrita :)
ME: Thank you very much Sir. :)

My interview was for around 45 mins. All of us were waiting eagerly to know the result. Finally they came to announce it at about 7 p.m, 24 students were selected from our college and thanks to God! That I was among them! :)

It was totally a different day of my life and to all who were along with me. All I can say is that, be confident and try to keep calm and cool attitude throughout the interview. Their behaviour was very friendly (believe me they are human too and not a thing of panic or any alien what we sometimes think . :D). So, all the best to all who is going to appear for the interview and thanks to all for reading this :) hope it will help u a little.
Thank you.
-Amrita

This is GIRI, I am from MCA at Narasaraopeta Enggneering ColLege. I have selected in the off campus drive in the MLR College Technology held on 13-08-2010 by HCL Technologies.

Here, I am writing this posting to share my experience with you.

HCL RECRUITMENT PROCESS.

1) WRITTEN TEST (COMPUTER BASED ONLINE TEST)

It consists of 82 questions, we have to write them in 90 minutes

There are three sections :
a) Apptitude
b) English
c) English passage

This is very important to clear, if you clear the written test you are almost (75%) placed in the HCL.

Prepare the R.S AGARWAL book its more than enough.

2) GROUP DISCUSSION
Its very easy round to clear, though you are not aware of the topic it is easy because HR people gives brief description about one topic, later they ask questions on this topic. If you are good listener, pay some attention you definitely clear this round each group contains 10 members, major elemination is here only from my group only two members are cleared, at other pannels they selected 6 out 10, and some times 9 out 10 also don't fear. If don't know any thing about the topic ask thougths, this also improves your chances of getting selected in the GD just involve in the discussion by asking questions

3) HR INTERVIEW
HR interview is just for formality. But some of us also eleminated here also almost 500 people are qalified for the HR ROUND and 400+ selected (as per my knowledge).

HR questions like,
• Tell me about ur self?
• What are your achivements ?
• What are your short term goals and long term goals ?
• Family background ?
• What do you know about HCL?
• Why HCL?
• Why should we hire you ?
• What is your area of interest?
• Will you go Noida? like these are very very easy

HCL RECRUITMENT PROCESS.

1) WRITTEN TEST (COMPUTER BASED ONLINE TEST)

It consists of 82 questions, we have to write them in 90 minutes

There are three sections :
a) Apptitude
b) English
c) English passage

Prepare the Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude by R.S AGARWAL. It is enough.

2) TECHNICAL GROUP DISCUSSION
Its very easy round to clear, though you are not aware of the topic it was easy because HR people gave brief description about the topic, our topic was Testing.Since our group of 5,were all from different streams,HR told us to talk in general about the topic rather than on technical side. If you are a good listener, pay some attention you definitely clear this round, major elemination is here only but all of them got selected from my group.

3) HR INTERVIEW
HR interview is just for formality. But some of us also got eliminated.Almost 500 people are qualified for the HR ROUND and 400+ selected (as per my knowledge).

The HR questions for me are,
- Tell me about ur self?
- What are your achivements ?
- What are your Strengths & weakness?
- What are your Hobbies ?
- What do you know about HCL?
- What are your academic projects?
- Why should we hire you ?
- What is your area of interest?
- Will you go Noida if you are posted there?

I was also posed by the questions which i never expected like:

1) If you were on a two-wheeler at a speed of 60km/hr..HR asked me to continue after this.

2) Tell the route map of the building to this room starting from the entrance of the building

My HR completed in around 20 minutes.

Placement Papers :: Tech Mahindra

My name is Ravish Rawat. Let me tell you my Interview Experience.

Clearing Tech Mahindra is all about aptitude.

If you have cleared the aptitude you have very high chances.

Here is the entire process:

->Aptitude(28 out 400 selected)).

->Tech Interview.

->HR Interview (Finally 9 were selected).

It was a pool campus event so approx. 10-15 colleges has taken part in the Campus event.

They started with the presentation ceremony. Please do not waste your time if you are not eligible because they are very certain about that. So you will waste your time.

Tech Mahindra's paper might be the easiest one among others but the difficult part is not how hard but difficult part is the speed.

You have to complete 180 questions in 90 minutes.

The major part is English but its moderate level question.

So one shoudl finish those in 20-25 minutes.

For English please go throgh some basic grammer fundas than it will be very much helpful.
The questions will be easy all you have to do is finish all the questions as fast as possible.

Now the apti is the tricky one.
Some question will be easy some will be timeconsuming.
So save time for that.

The question will come more from series,patnership,non-verbal
I have go through plenty of questions of IndiaBix and other placement paper which helped me a lot so i will advise you to do the same.
After apti they declared the result and about 28 were selected out almost 350.

So they did major filtration in aptitude. So tough part is to clear aptitude.

They pronounce the result at almost 5'o clock. Now we have to wait for tech interview.

Before technical interview the have given us a form to fill up. it has some basic questions like where u see your self after 5 year your aim in life etc.

Now tech interview. The main thing here is communication skill and some basic knowledge of your fav subjects.

Here communication skill will help you to go through personal interview because if you have got less mark here than HR will become little bit tough.

he asked me questions like what is linked list explain pointers what is the difference in class and object, then abt OSI model , various protocols.

P.S - be cool n be your self .if u dont know any thing then just say i dont know abt it.

Even I didn't answered some of their questions like what is servelets, telnet etc
SO I know I have cleared the tech interview.

If you have gone through till here you have almost won 95% battle.
Now you just have to keep your moral up and your mind in its place.

Now the last is HR for me the just asked some basic questions like will u be able to move to hyderabad, what u know about tech mahindra and then he said ok wait outside. then after 7 minutes he declared the result.

Finally 9 students out of 400 got selected. our package is 1.9L + 15K (for reallocation) per annum.

I am a student of B.E. (I.T.) from Atharva college of Engineering - Mumbai. Tech mahindra came to our college on 25th of September 2008.

Candidates appeared for the aptitude: 81
Candidates Cleared aptitude: 17
Finally selected after Interviews: 17

The 1st screening was done by keeping the eligibility criteria as 58%. Those below 58% were allowed to sit for the exams but even if they cleared the aptitude they were not called for interviews!

The Aptitude test was ONLINE!!. The test was reallly simple but the main constraint was TIME!!... we had to solve 100 questions in 60 mins. The procedure to be followed during the test and various details such as login_id and password were clearly explained when the panel gave their presentation. There is no Negative marking. So attempt all questions.

For clearing the aptitude R.S aggarwal Quantitative & Verbal -Nonverbal Reasoning should be solved...

The important topics that should be covered from these books are:
==Quantitative: H.C.F.and L.C.M of nos., Average, Problems on Ages, Percentage, Time and Work, Alligation or Mixture, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, Clocks, Simplification
==Verbal and Nonverbal: series completion, Analogy, coding-Decoding, Blood Relations, Puzzle test, Data sufficiency, Logic, Statement-Conclusions, Figure matrix, Odd man Out from Image Series, series of images.

There are 6 sections
section 1=Nonverbal,
section 2=verbal reasoning,
section 3=Quantitative,
section 4,5,6 is English

There is sectional cutoff but no Upper cutoff. GUI is user friendly. Every section, after attempting should be saved otherwise the page gets refreshed and all the answers will be lost. we can change the section as and when we want but the section should be saved.

If u get a good score in ur aptitude or if u are among the Top-3 or 4 students ur technical interview will be easy.

I was asked general questions such as Tell me about urself, Why should I hire u?, What do u know about Tech Mahindra?, What are ur strengths and weaknesses? Tell me about the Projects that u did and the role played by u and other team members. Then I was told to move to the H.R. Round

In the H.R. round the interviewer asked us about our views regarding a general situation. The situation given to me was that... if i am made the college principal what are the 3 things that i would like to change?... Others were asked about MNS, and issue of north indians coming into Mumbai.

Just be confident and if u dont know something say u are not sure or say I dont know! Dont bluff. Be thorough with ur projects and everything that u have mentioned in ur resume! If u have a gap in any of ur academic years or between the Engineering semesters... u should have a strong reason to support the gap.

Before Tech Mahindra... I had appeared for 6 other companies but somehow I couldnt even clear the aptitude.

So dont lose hope if u are still struggling with the aptitude.... its just that.. it was not ur day or something better is awaiting u!!

Placement Papers :: Adobe

Adobe came to Jadavpur University on July 27, 09. Following is the test pattern:
1. Aptitude: 45 minutes
45 questions in total. Refer R.S Agarwal or CSR.
15 questions from analytical.
30 questions from quantitative aptitude.
No test on English language.
2. Subjective questions.
10 questions: 30 minutes.
10 questions: 45 minutes.
The paper comprised of the following topics:
1. Algorithm analysis.
Finding time complexity of a program written in pseudo code.
Writing 1 pass algorithms for sorting with some given constraint(s).
2. Microprocessor.
Use of 5-6 mnemonics only and 3 registers we are asked to write a program.
3. C-language.
String operations without using standard string library functions.
4. Automata theory.
One nfa was given to accept bbb. We are to find a fsm that will accept aabb.
One fsm was given finding the number of string that it can accept.
The questions was little bit tricky but if prepare well for GATE examination,
this examination is quite suitable for you.
9 Cleared the written.

1. What is the difference between Char a[ ]="string" and char *a="String"
2. What is wrong with the code? The code was for conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit : degF =5/9*(c+32)
In code this line was wrong as we want 5/9 and that to be multiplied with bracket result. But here 9 will be first multiplied with bracket result.
3. What are Data breakpoints? Give two scenarios where we make the use of this
4. What do you mean by Bit fields? Give example
5. Write the function for changing a number from hexadecimal to integer htoi(s
6. Compare two binary trees they are same or not.
7. You have N computers and [Ca, Cb] means a is connected to b and this connectivity is symmetric and transitive. then write a program which checks that all computers are interconnected and talk two each other
8. WAP to find Depth of tree program. We were given the structure of the node using that we need to write the code.
9. In binary search we have two comparisons one for greater than and other for less than the mid value. Optimize so that we need to check only once
10. Question was some what like we need to write the function so that we get the two dimensional array and memory is assigned to it using malloc function. Don't remember the question exactly. But this was the only question in proper language
Engineering Paper:
I remember only 5 questions in this. A s this was taken first
1. Binary search Tree was given. Find 4th smallest element.
2. Some code in assembly was given and given five options. What is being calculated?
Ans (XY) 2 + Y + Z
3. Represent (-5)10 in 2's complement representation in 8 bits
4. Expression was given. Draw tree and then find the postfix

5. Some commands in the assembly language were given. Then need to convert this code in assembly
A=300;
For (i=0 ; i<=10 ; i++)
A=A+200;
